Back Home

We're back in Minnnesota!! Most everyone has heard about the challenges that arose with planning our homebirth in Honduras, if not, here's the recap. The Honduran Doctor we planned to use for our homebirth informed us that he would be unavailable the last two weeks of November. Our due date is November 24. We tried to find a replacement doc with no luck! I asked the doctor what hospital or birthing center he would recommend for us in Tegucigalpa, and he had none he would recommend. We looked into hospital birth in Honduras, but after speaking with several moms about their experiences we made the decision to come back to the states. I think God just likes to keep us on our toes and keep us flexible and open to his plans for us.

When we left Honduras we were in some very wet, cold (50's), powerless conditions with no way to heat up the house. I found it easy to feel really sorry for myself until I would think of the families that spend every evening by candle light, holes in their walls and roof, and don't have a blanket to warm themselves or their children when they are cold. People whose homes are at risk of washing away because of all the rains that just wouldn't let up. Roads had been washing away as well making it very difficult for people to get to work. I understand that it has let up now and the temps are a bit warmer. Thank God for that!

On November 1st we began our journey to our other home, Minnesota. We had two flights and I have to give big thanks to Reed and Ella on great behavior the whole day. I found myself to have more patience than usual that day as well. Also, we ran into no challenges flying with my very pregnant belly. We had a few contractions with each take off, but otherwise everything went really smoothly. I think it was all those wonderful prayers that went up for us from so many caring family and friends in Honduras and here in MN.

We made it back to Minnesota about 10pm where we were welcomed by the Rezac family (Al, Lisa, and Sidney) who graciously gave us a nice warm home to stay in. (Reed, Ella and Sidney are enjoying playing in the beautiful fall weather in the pic) On the 2nd we enjoyed worship at our home church Christ the King in Bloomington, MN. Reed and Ella were really excited to see all their nursery buddies and Jodi. It was so great to see so many friendly familiar faces and worship in our home church. We look forward to sharing stories from Honduras with everyone there for a soup luncheon tomorrow.
We left the cities on Sunday to see some very excited family in the Alexandria area. Grandpa and Grandma Schroeder flew in form California to spend a couple days with us. Reed and Ella really enjoyed playing with all their cousins' (Rachel, Kyrstin, and Riley) and their toys. We got to enjoy a couple of beautiful fall days in the 60's and since then the cold has set in. One nice thing here is though is the warm houses.

Late Tuesday night we arrived at Grandpa and Grandma Wikoff's where we have been busy settling in. Reed has claimed his auntie Kacie's old bedroom as "My room!" I feel a bit spoiled putting the kids to bed in separate bedrooms. I thought they would have a hard time adjusting to that, but so far so good. I've been working on my nesting symptoms getting things in order for the new little one to make his or her appearance.

This weekend Ryan and I will be traveling back to the cities to share and visit with friends and family. Reed and Ella undoubtedly will be spoiled by their grandparents and aunties who will be caring for them. I believe today they get to go to the new Madagascar movie and McDonald's.

Only about two weeks left until we're a family of five. That sounds like a lot! We'll keep you all updated. Thank you all for your prayers and support!
